linux - Web site Devoted to Linux. The recent introduction of Linux into the embedded sector has been one of the most exciting changes in the last few years. Based on the open-source model, it offers new possibilities to embedded engineers traditionally used to commercial operating systems. Currently many universities train students to develop embedded products. Until last year, most lectures and lab sessions were based on a commercial real-time operating system. Now we use Linux, and this fact has opened our minds and given us possibilities for a future evolution.

If you're new to Linux, you don't want to download the kernel, which is just a component in a working Linux system. There are numerous distributions available for download on the Internet as well as for purchase from various vendors; some are general-purpose, and some are optimized for specific uses. We currently have mirrors of the Debian - and RedHat - general-purpose distributions available at mirrors.kernel.org, as well as a small collection of special-purpose distributions -

- Xbox - and Linux - The Xbox is a gaming console by Microsoft. It consists of very powerful IBM-PC-based hardware, runs a stripped-down version of the Windows kernel and, for anti-piracy reasons, allows only games to run.
The Xbox Linux Project aims to provide a version of GNU/Linux for the Xbox, so that it can be used as an ordinary computer. Linux should make use of all Xbox hardware and allow to install and run software from standard i386 Linux distributions.
An Xbox running Linux is very useful as a desktop computer, as a (web) server or as a node in a Linux cluster.
You can already download a full distribution of Xbox Linux and try it out on your (modded) Xbox!
Build and Xbox from Mandrake and SUSE ! -
Manifesto - Xbox Policy - The policy of the Xbox Linux Project consists of the following important points: The project is completely legal. We do not have anything to do with software piracy and we are not interested in it at all.

LINUX - Online News Linux is FREE ! and it isn't going to bankrupt. Big companies cannot compete on price! To compete with free software on value. We cannot price at zero, so we need to justify our posture and pricing. Linux is free but services provide a better product in the marketplace.
Chinesse and Indian Linux If the Chinese have IT, get it. The Indian government seems to be taking a leaf out of China 's operating system, and is planning a countrywide drive to promote the open source operating system, Linux, as the 'platform of choice' instead of 'proprietary' solutions. The Department of Information Technology has already devised a strategy to introduce Linux and open source software as a de-facto standard in academic institutions, especially in engineering colleges through course work that encourages use of such systems. India, Australia, Venezuela, Spain, UK, and other countries are using this Operating System and Free Office Products from OpenOffice.
Linux Certification in Washington ! Linux will win a greater role in government by offering to act as result of a federally certified version. The Cyberspace Policy Institute, established a decade ago at George Washington University, plans to certify Linux under the Common Criteria, a standard grading of technology required by the United States and other countries before products can be sold into sensitive government applications. The initiative would lead to a single, standard version of Linux acceptable to the high security standards of the government, (and commerce of course), and hence make it easier for Linux companies to compete against Microsoft and other large software makers.
